Sisters without driving licenses spark 90mph police chase - then ask for CIGARETTE when caught.

Two sisters without driving licences who sparked a 90mph police chase asked cops for a CIGAREETE when they were finally halted.

Amy and Laura Humpage also swapped seats before officers caught up with
them, drove on the wrong side of the road, ran three red lights and
demolished a 2ft brick wall.

The sisters shook off two police cars before a third caught up with them as
they crashed the car in Selston Road, Aston, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Police had earlier flagged down the BMW near the sisters' home in Sumburgh
Croft, Castle Vale.

Officers said driver Amy had "clearly been drinking" but she shut the car
window on a cop's thumb and sped off with her older sister in the passenger
seat.

The sisters had switched places by the time a second set of officers caught
up with the speeding car, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Laura, who has a one-year-old son, sped along Fort Parkway at 70mph, drove
on the wrong side of the road, ran red lights, turned right blindly and almost lost control as she sped around the Gravelly Hill roundabout by Spaghetti Junction.

When the car stopped, the sisters refused to get out - so officers smashed
the window with a baton.

Alistair Redford, prosecuting, said: "When the car was stopped Laura handed
the keys over and asked officers for a cigarette.

"Amy was clearly drunk but failed to provide a specimen."

Laura was breath-tested and was found to be under the drink-drive limit but
had alcohol in her system.

They were both arrested at the scene at around 7.15am on September 7.

Laura, 27, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without
insurance and a licence.

The court heard she had suffered mental health problems and had been
sectioned in the past. She was handed a 12-month suspended sentence and a
supervision order.

Amy, 25, admitted careless driving, failing to provide a specimen and having no licence. She was given a two-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay £250.

Both sisters were banned from driving.

Passing sentence, Judge Murray Creed told the pair: "I'm quite satisfied that, as far as the crime is concerned, it passed the custody threshold."

And he told Laura: "I am concerned about your bipolar condition and, in particular, the fact you've been subject to mental health orders in the
past."
